Accreditation at Woolston College
At Woolston 6th Form, we provide opportunities for our students to achieve relevant, nationally recognised qualifications to aid progression in their independent living and employability skills, as appropriate to their support needs and life aspirations.
We do this by accessing the Open Awards units from Skills for Further Learning and Employment (SFLE) and Employability and Professional Development (EPD) courses, bespoke to our curriculum offer.
Students participate in baseline assessments upon entering the college, which will determine the initial level of the 2-year course, based on SFLE, alongside teacher assessments. Levels range from entry-level 1 to level 2 and will result in either a certificate or an extended certificate, depending on their pathway, provided students have completed the course required number of learning hours.
In year 14, as students prepare for post-19 opportunities, they will engage in a second Open Awards qualification based in SFLE (with a focus on independent living skills), with pathway 3 and 4 students also accessing a course based in EPD, as applicable.
Our aim is to provide our students with a solid grounding of skills, knowledge, and understanding to support their development and progression into the world of post-19 opportunities and/or the workplace, with supporting qualifications to further enhance their prospects for the future.
